Hold the Bus!

Due to the severe drought in California, the Forest Service needs to "pass through" water from Huntington Lake to fulfill its downstream commitments and the High Sierra Regatta has been canceled for the first time in sixty years.  Naturally, this also requires us to relocate the National Class Championships and Women's Championship to Alamitos Bay.  Pending final confirmation, the new dates appear to be August 1 - 3 for the Senior Championship.  Please stay tuned.

Gearing up for Spring!

The start of February featured an unusual scoring phenomenom in the Sunkist Series at Balboa Yacht Club.  Kathy Reed and Walter Johnson wound up with identical scores after four months and a total of eight races scored.  Walter had won tie breakers for the first two daily tallies but Kathy won the crucial last race of the series and won the tie breaker for the last day and Series overall.  Both competitors wound up with their names being added to the Sunkist perpetual trophy for most race wins.  This was a great example of friendly yet competitive racing exemplifying the Corinthian spirit and Family Sailing - Family Fun!

Inclement weather washed out the Richmond Midwinters for our NorCal friends but SCYA Midwinters in Alamitos Bay and Oceanside brought out a gaggle of Lidos in SoCal on the weekend of February 15 -16.  Most recently, despite SoCal doing its best to break out of a drought, three brave souls took onthe elements yesterday at the SCYA Manning Regatta in Alamitos Bay and naturally sit atop the Portsmouth Class leaderboard.  Find the reports in the News section.

Three fun events are on the Calendar for the rest of March - St. Patrick's Day in Oceanside, the Harry Wood Memorial in Newport Beach and the Fleet 2 Invitational in Marina del Rey.

Super Bowl Charity Regatta is in the books.  Next...

Twenty Lidos were part of a total of thirty-nine boats that competed in the 2014 version of the Super Bowl Charity Regatta.  In typical fashion, the weather played some tricks and competitors felt the only rain drops of the year so far in SoCal.  When it the rain drops stopped it just got chilly.  Wind was a bit light with some large shifts and changes in pressure making for lots of position changes.  Be sure to check out Stu's recap.

Next in NorCal, Richmond Midwinters #3 on February 2.  In SoCal tune up for Midwinters in Newport Beach at Sunkist #4 on February 1 and then there's SCYA Midwinders in both Oceanside and Alamitos Bay on President's Weekend.
