Fleet Captains meet and exchange ideas
The evening of October 15, a number of Lido 14 Fleet Captains joined in on a conference call with the Class President, Vice President, Secretary and District 1 and 2 Secretaries. After an introduction by President Steve Potter discussing membership renewals, how membership dues are spent and some of the goals of the Governing Board for this year, an open discussion was held where each Fleet Captain was asked what issues they faced and what they thought the Class can do to help? A couple of items stood out, the first being the desire to provide clinics to help members improve their skills. Secondly, there was discussion of how having fun social events, in addtion to racing, has positive results in building strong fleets. Other items included a local event as a "go to" traveling event to encourage members from other areas to visit a venue, restructuring membership dues based on time of year, using old membership lists to contact Lido owners that have become inactive as a way to recruit members or even find good boats for potential members and the use of Fleet owned boats to attract membership. All great ideas. We look forward to following up on these and having another Captain's meeting in a couple of months. The Class has produced a Fleet Captain's guide which is available here. Just a reminder, all meetings are open to all Class members so send an email to
for call in instructions.
