Friday, June 14th, was a rare Friday that both Maria and I could get off work. So we eagerly packed up the Lido and headed north in the glorious sunshine. Destination: Clear Lake Cottages & Marina, on this state's largest natural freshwater lake. ETA: 2pm.
Santa Monica Bay served up a real preview of the upcoming National Class Championships, perfect weather, moderate breezes, a couple of large shifts and, of course, some choppy water. Throw in Fleet 2 hospitality and the result was a phenomenal day of Lido family, fun sailing.
Fleet 2 opened its doors to all for its annual Championship and what a NCCRW preview it was.
Nice lake!! water clear (and fresh - of course) and not as cold as SF Bay. Wider than Huntington, but not as long. You could hold a good Districts there....much, much better sailing than Lake Elizabeth or Lake Washington.
Happy Memorial Day and for the love of sailingy and beer we sacrificed our minds and bodies for the pleasure enjoyed in our little boat. Memorial Day at ABYC was a fun event. Martyn Bookwalter (PRO) the super star of bay courses directed all the Lido traffic in the bay.
It was awesome! A good number of families showed up. We finally presented our pilot program, took kids on sailing rides, ate good hot dogs and shared the spirit of sailing with the community. The day was beautiful and the wind was close to perfection.
